Educational Training a Must for Optimal Property Management

Developments in the property sector are advancing at a rapid pace, and the need to keep up with knowledge is naturally increasing at the same rate. To meet the market's thirst for knowledge, there are different ways to go. The options depend on the level and where in the chain you operate.

There are several higher education programmes on the market that provide the basis for those who wish to work in property management.

PiiiGAB offers regular courses for those in the industry who want to update their skills in line with developments.
The market offers various types of training and courses required to become and/or remain an up-to-date player in the property sector.

Training for future property managers

Newton is an independent training organisation owned by Storskogen Invest and runs vocational colleges, diploma courses and property courses in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. It is aimed at both individuals and the business community. The school's management includes people from the business community who ensure that the programme is in line with reality. Below are the CSN-eligible YH courses as they are conducted in property management:

  • Property manager, 2.5 years:
  • Property Manager - Technical specialisation, 2 years

After completing the programme, you will work as a property manager. This profession can have slightly different specialisations such as technical or commercial. Some people also work as property project managers or lease brokers.

"I wanted to get an education and have always found property management interesting. What made me choose Newton is, among other things, that there is a total of 30 weeks of LIA (practical training) during the training period, which is divided into three periods", says Mr Niklas Karlsson who are in their first year of the Property Management programme.

The Real Estate Academy is located in Gothenburg and is a vocational college. It is owned and run by around 60 municipalities and private property companies. The property industry is very involved in the development and content of the school. Since its inception in 1999, it has trained more than 3000 employees in the property sector. The teachers are hand-picked from the industry. 96% of the graduates already have a job upon graduation as many are already recruited during their LIA internship. Below are the CSN-eligible YH courses as they are conducted in property management:

  • Property manager with technical specialisation, 2.5 years
  • Building and energy technician, 1.5 years
  • Certified property manager, 1 year
  • Technical Manager, 2.5 years
  • Property engineer years 2 years

After graduating from the Real Estate Academy, you can work, for example, as a property manager, technical manager, but also property technician.

"A major advantage of vocational colleges such as the Real Estate Academy, which has programmes tailored to the real estate industry, is that they are adapted to the workplace. Employers are involved as stakeholders in the schools," says Mr Markus Lihnell, trainer at Fastighetsakademin and project manager at Oaks.

Håkan Carlund, CEO of PiiGAB.

"The fact that the statistics also show that 9 out of 10 have found a job within 6 months of the programme and that there is a lot of freedom with responsibility so that you can plan some extra work during the study period are also important factors when choosing a school"

Says Niklas Karlsson, who is in the first year of the Property Manager programme

"Most of the people who train at the schools have some kind of connection to the respective discipline and industry and thus try to steer the content so that it is as relevant to our industry in the present and future"

Says Markus Lihnell, trainer at the Real Estate Academy and project manager at Oaks.
