Requirements for new electricity meters (Only for Sweden)

In 2018, the government made the decision that the electricity grid companies in Sweden must replace or upgrade all electricity meters to modern smart electricity meters with improved functions before the year 2025.

All new electricity meters installed in Sweden must have the customer interface HAN-P1/RJ12. Via HAN-P1, you get instant access to, for example, meter readings, active power and reactive power.

Exception (Only for Sweden)

Energy companies Sweden has created an industry recommendation for the HAN port on Swedish electricity meters. However, some electricity grid companies were quick and replaced electricity meters before the recommendation was completely clear. As a result, there are now also electricity meters with the Norwegian variant of the HAN port. The difference is that the Norwegian variant uses an RJ45 connector (NEC) while the Swedish one uses an RJ12 connector.

The RJ12 cable that is connected between the utility meter and the PiiGAB P1 Converter can be purchased from us as an accessory, 1m, 3m or 5m length.

Does not require its own voltage supply

The PiiGAB P1 Converter does not need a separate voltage supply. It is fed from the utility meter's HAN port.

Follows protocol standard

PiiGAB P1 Converter converts the data to M-Bus (EN-13757-2, 3). The utility meter's data is seen as an M-Bus meter. In PiiGAB 900 Smart Metering Gateways, the measurement data can then be converted to other protocols such as Modbus.
