PiiGAB Explorer

PiiGAB Explorer is the common interface used to configure the PiiGAB M-Bus OPC Server and to configure Modbus and M-Bus ASCII in the PiiGAB M-Bus 900.

The PiiGAB Explorer is a tool to easily configure all values that will be shown from your meters directly in PiiGAB Explorer or in your OPC client.

When you are working with your project you will first have to add channels. After that you will add the different meters that are connected to the M-Bus loop under each channel. Finally, you will set up the preferred tags or objects that you want to read from the different meters.

After the meters have been configured you can look up their values by using the monitor function in the PiiGAB Explorer.


The monitor function in the interface contains an OPC client, the concept is shown in the figure below.
The server itself is a thin OPC server without a built-in interface

Channel32      Channel

If you want to communicate over Ethernet/Intranet/Internet you will have to set whether you want to communicate via TCP or UDP as well as port number. Then you have to set the IP address the DNS name for the unit you wish to communicate with. In the case you want to use serial communication you will also have to set communication port and baud rate. 

Group32     Group

You can group your meters together depending on the meter’s manufacturer in order to use the in heritage function of parameters in the most effective manner. Alternatively you can set a stair hall or a terrace house as a group. These can be copied and reused so that only the IP address will be the difference between them.

Device32     Meters

Set your address depending on if you want to use primary or secondary addressing. For secondary addressing you can set meter number, manufacturer, version and medium (unit type) individually for each meter.

Tag32     Tag

As a tag or OPC Item you can configure all different properties in an M-Bus object or data record. Just set what objects and what inside the object that you want to tag such as value, data type, tariff, vib, unit, storage or function.

Project32     Project

All your files are saved as a project. In the project window you can easily see the type of project, when it was created, and when it was last changed.

Template48  Template

To work effectively you can save your meters as templates and then reuse them as often as you wish. It is also possible to create new templates from existing meter templates.

Backup32      Backup/Restore

Of course you can take a backup of your project and meter templates. It is also possible to restore your backup.

Find48  Search

From the search window you can search ports, groups, meters and tags. If you double click on the current object in the current list you will be redirected to the right dialog for the current object.

Key48 License

The license is only connected to the server. This means that you can configure your system during an unlimited time. The license key comes either as a USB hardware key or a software key. It is possible to show your values in demo mode for one port, five meters, for 30 minutes.

Globe48  Language support

It is possible to switch language online in the PiiGAB Explorer. Today we support Swedish, English, Norwegian, and German. The language texts are in a separate file, which makes it easy to add additional languages at a later date.

Debug48  Debug

By using the debug function you can save information from your meter readings and use them to analyze or verify the data.

 Run32    Start

This button starts the reading of the current meter. This is a perfect verifying method to see which values the meter consists of, in what respective objects the values are placed from the meter manufacturer etc. The PiiGAB Explorer contains its own OPC client, which means that the readings are done the normal OPC way.

Stop32     Stop

This button stops the readings of the current meter.
